The Room of Saint Francis
Nicola De Maria
1982 - acrylic paints, suitcase

An intense blue radiates from the walls of a large room located on the top floor of the villa. The visitor is immersed in an atmosphere of great mysticism. Several crescent moons seem to float in the space, while a painted suitcase symbolizes the spiritual voyages of Saint Francis of Assisi throughout the world. The two French windows in the room serve as a frame for several architectural references to the Saint's town, while on the side walls, evanescent images disappear into the blue sky, leaving halos of red light behind.
