Robert Morris was born in Kansas City in 1931. After spending a brief period in San Francisco he moved to New York City before establishing his home and studio in Gardiner, NY. He died in 2018 in Kingston, NY.

Morris has carried out other important permanent projects in Tuscany such as the gate for the new Dialysis Center, Pistoia (2004); Hegel's Owl for the parco della Padule, Carrara (2002), and the new presbytery furnishing of the Prato cathedral. His video The Birthday Boy was conceived and projected for the temporary exhibition at the Accademia in Florence (2004-2005).
