The Nets of Solomon
Alice Aycock
1982 - steel, cement, marble

A sloping field inside the park is the site for this artwork, which is composed of five elements: astrolabe, horizon, ramp, cosmic electricity, and philosopher's stone. These were created in homage to Tuscany's men of genius; in particular, Galileo and Da Vinci. In spite of their imposing nature, these five elements do not obstruct the view of the space; rather, their transparency contributes to the understanding of the surrounding landscape. The installation enhances the environment by framing the bamboo forest below, as well as the hill opposite the work, which is richly forested with the area's most predominant vegetation.
